1st Deliverable
This really isn't very exciting... go to our main
project page for more up to date info and pics.
Our 1st deliverable involved the following aspects:
1. Design Completed
(what objects, where, what color scheme and textures)
Here is the what objects and where, from the top and front:
Key and Textures
- chair -- uses velvet shader and will be
dark tan in color.
- window -- the sill will have a white-painted wood texture; the window
glass itself will use the built in Renderman
glass shader.
- end table -- uses built in Renderman wood shader; the ideal is
the color and hue of cherry wood.
- coffee cup & saucer -- uses built in Renderman plastic shader; the
cup and saucer will be white, the
coffee dark brown, and the steam is
mentioned below.
- throw rug -- we may put this in later; if so, will be a blue rope
style textured rug.
- floor -- uses built in Renderman carpet shader and will be
medium chocolate in color.
- ceiling -- not seen.
- tools -- fire place tools: brush, shovel, poker. Use a brassy
appearing manipulation of built in Renderman metal
shader.
- hearth -- uses cinder block shader, but
with an appropriate brick-red color scheme.
- fire -- will use either built in wood shader or a custom shader
for the logs; the fire itself is discussed below.
- fire pit -- really just an extension of the hearth.
- bookcase -- the bookcase itself will match the end table; the
books' spines will be a polished version of this
flat texture map.
- back wall -- uses custom wallpaper
texture.

2. Researching Shader Techniques
We came up with the following techniques for shading:
- fire -- We decided to shade the fire using a rewritten volumetric
version of the flat flame shader
we found.
- steam -- We are shading the steam from the coffee cup using
a volumetric smoke shader.
- water drops -- The water drops will be created with a procedural
displacement map which will allow for animation
3. Modeling Begun
Modeling has indeed begun, no completed objects as of yet though.
