RCN Expands Services in Boston and NJ Markets
RCN has expanded its voice, video and data service area
in metro Boston to include Burlington, Allston, Dedham
and Arlington. The provider has received regulatory
approval to offer its services in parts of Hudson
County.
Cisco launches new integrated access devices IAD2400
Cisco Systems Inc. launched new IAD2400 series, integrated
access devices or IADs for service providers which
reduce the time and cost of delivering data and voice
services to small and medium businesses.
AT&T to Offer Telephony over Insight's Networks
AT&T has signed a deal with Insight Communications
allowing it to offer telephony services over the MSO's
cable systems, which serve 1.5 million video subs. AT&T
will pay Insight a monthly per line access fee for the
local loop.
New Edge Networks Expands Broadband Services to Georgia
New Edge Networks, the leading national broadband
service provider in small, midsize and semi-rural
markets, today announced it is introducing its high-speed
DSL and other business-class broadband services in
Augusta, Georgia.
Level 3 announces new softswitch-based voice customers
Level 3 Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:LVLT) today
announced it has signed new customer agreements for
Level 3's softswitch-based, voice-over-Internet Protocol
(VoIP) long-distance telephone service. Level 3
currently processes more than 6 billion minutes per
month of softswitch-based voice and data calls.

Supreme Court Agrees To Hear Cable Internet Access Case
The US Supreme Court said today it would hear an appealof
a decision that could affect the price and availability
of high-speed Internet access in remote regions of the
country. The high court said Monday it would take on
a lower court's decision.
Mark Smith Heads to NCTA
Marc Osgoode Smith, editor in chief of CableFAX Daily,
is expected to take a job at the National Cable Television
Association soon in a move designed to raise the
industry's profile as a provider of video programming,
high-speed data and voice-telephony services.
Cisco VP sees carrier casualties beyond DSL
Santa Clara, Calif. - The shakeout among telecommunications
carriers will spread beyond the digital subscriber line
arena, a senior Cisco Systems Inc. manager said last
week.
Cash Flow Helps Cable Debt Market
A rash of recent debt issues from cable and media
companies proves the capital markets remain open to
those businesses with cash flow and revenue growth.
Modem Unit Sees Slowing
Broadband communications was the bright spot in Motorola's
otherwise disappointing fourth-quarter earnings report.
MSOs Report Increased Subs
AT&T ended the second quarter with 223,600 cable
telephony subs (includes MediaOne), up from 137,800
the previous period. The MSO installed an average of
1,300 new subs per day during Q'2, ending the quarter
with 1,600 per day. Cablevision Lightpath reports
11,053 residential telephony subs.
