Salin Solution, Part I

The party goes to see the I'kliat and ask for help. They gain some support, and come back to face Salin in a deadly standoff. The combat is not concluded at the end of the episode, though, and will be continued in the second act.

Watch For:

• Big steaming piles of whoopass.

Plot Points:

• Salin is very powerful. Salin can call down the wrath of the elements on people.
• Salin has turned Timus into a gecko.
• Salin has created giant spiders, and has Trrkl, his Earth Elemental servant, attacking the party.
• A small Lizard appears to be helping Salin with spells, though it has not directly attacked the party.

Unanswered Questions:

• Salin's speech as the party comes in: "You're all dead, all of you, you're the product of the gods, and they're dead, they're nothing, they're broken little pieces and it's all fake, all of it, and none of it is real, they're all broken, they're all broken..." What does this mean? Is Salin just insane, or is there some kind of intelligence in this?
• How is the party going to survive?
• How will they defeat Trrkl?
• What's up with the lizard? Some powerful druids can Awaken an animal, giving it human intelligence. Is this what has happened to that Lizard? Is it a lizard wizard?

DMP Speaks:

The ball of light that appeared at the end.

That would be a lantern archon, a Good-aligned outsider. Sort of raises the question of what kind of person can summon a good-aligned outsider, doesn't it? Probably not an evil person. And the fact that the lizard didn't cast direct-damage spells... it makes one wonder.

Trrkl is just too powerful. There's no way to credibly attack him.

Yes, he's very big and very powerful. And the party saw him long before he actually became a threat. The party had a chance to prepare a whole lot of protection spells so that Trrkl can't even touch them. Also, Trrkl has no resistance to elemental damage, so fire, acid, cold, all of it is going to hurt him just fine. He's not unbeatable, he's just a factor. If you look at it, the giant spiders and their poison have done a lot more harm than Trrkl. They weren't expected at all, and now it looks like Arlemis is going to be hanging off the ceiling in a round or so.

(7/2001) What about the sword's immunity powers? Wouldn't Arlemis be immune to the spider's poison?

Arlemis wasn't holding the swords. He was holding the bow. In the future, he figures this out, and holds the swords when he's in danger of being poisoned.
