The Twingate Christmas Special

Episode Number: (TGUN01) Original Airdate: never aired Originally intended to air around Christmas, the episode was shelved for a Grinch / Frosty the Snowman crossover cartoon. The episode opened with Christmas coming to Twingate, and the guards talking around the tavern. Timus doesn't have any family, and Aldamar thinks the season should be more spiritual. Gryffid declares that he doesn't believe in Santa Claus. Then word comes to the party that Santa Claus has been captured by an evil demon who is trying to destroy Christmas, and the party has to split up, with Gryffid, Leny, and Sendant rescuing Santa while Tierney, Timus, and Arlemis try to take over for Santa while he's gone.

Treasure Watch:

• Watch Gryff's eyes light up with little dwarven tears when he finds that masterwork hand-axe under the Christmas rock (dwarves don't use trees)
• Leny gets a nice dress that helps her overcome her tomboy issues and open up to being okay about being a woman and all that. (Note from Karin: She also gets a small fleet of pixies to see to her makeup and hair and skin-tone and all that crap when she's in the middle of the dungeon)
• Arlemis gets a beautiful elven cloak and boots, which he then sells shortly before making a large anonymous donation to an orphanage.
• Timus gets a note from his sister.
• Aldamar gets a seedling of a sacred tree, and a chance to plant it in a powerful religious ceremony.
• Tierney gets a "Richal, Lover of Justice, Action Figure", complete with Realistic Flailing Action. Also, Sendant shares some of the chocolates he got with him.

Plot Points:

• Santa is a high-level paladin/rogue, as evidenced by his ability to sneak so effectively and to also Detect Naughty and Nice at will .
• The gore attack of a MagicalReindeer can do up to 36 points damage, even without a critical hit.

Unanswered Questions:

• Why the hell would they celebrate Christmas? I mean, it doesn't even make sense -- it's a damn pagan world, for chrissake!
• No, really, think about it. Christmas? I mean, at least fricking Eddings called it Erastide in his damn Belgariad.

Analysis:

Tierney's action figure present is a pretty clear message for him that he should look to Richal as an example. While he hasn't actually been really evil, atering the space-time continuum is probably going to get you into the Naughty Category pretty quickly.

When Arlemis asks why Leny's stocking has unicorns and rainbows all over it, she gets very flustered and says that she got it when she was very young. Of course, a close look at the still-attached price tag shows that it was purchased just last week. Not that Arlemis is one to talk. Not many Christmas stockings actually have a side sheath for masterwork thieving tools.

DMP Speaks:

We all really wish this one had gotten aired. I mean, we wanted to get across a message about the spirit of the holidays. Friends, family, and killing demons.

Why do they celebrate Christmas?

Well, you can see how something would evolve around winter time. There's the DayOfDarkness, and you'd want to have some kind of indoor celebration along those times, kind of a sign that you have faith in the coming spring and all that.

Yeah, but they said it was Christmas. They said it flat-out!

They're celebrating Christmas! Did we miss something in the creation mythology of this world? What the hell?
