Wish You Were Here

Episode Number: (TG311)

Original Airdate: 10/2001

After a few sips from the fountain, the party talks with Lilly (see "Shadow of my former self") and decides to take on the Earth challenge by heading down an earthen tunnel. Unfortunately, the tunnel's door closes behind them, (Patrick's wife describes it as the "You Are Now Fucked" door), and after getting past some traps, the party finds themselves not at the Earth challenge, but at some sort of teleporter room. Then Tierney, who is very brave while wielding the ValiantBlade, goes off and uses the teleporter himself. The party's attempt to follow him is unsuccessful, and they end up in a labyrinth of earthen corridors where they fight big nasty rock-wolves.

Analysis:

The ValiantBlade is a big pain in the ass at times. In addition to the whole lack of fear thing, it tends to make people use the word "Chums" a lot. Doubly unfortunate.

The party is inflicting a great deal of damage on the rock wolves even while at a disadvantage -- tripped or attacking through cover, etc. It's a nice mark of how far they've come.

DMP Speaks:

Just for the record, I hate party splitups. There are a lot of cases in real life where a party splitup makes complete sense, but it's just a pain.

I also hate large mazelike areas. Go, Neverwinter Nights. Just lemme lay that corridor section down instead of bloody drawing it and then going, "No, you can't go there, there's a wall, silly... Oh, did I leave out the wall? Um."

Geordan says: When Patrick gave us the scripts for this episode, he said that the theme was "Magic Items Raining from Heaven." I think he mispronounced "Ass-Whupping" as "Magic Items" again.

Gryffid Speaks:

Well, those rock-wolves were interesting little buggers. I think I may have actually learned something from them. Heh, heh.

Notable Quotes

(Arlemis does poorly on a tracking check)
Patrick: It looks like Tierney was here two or three days ago, he was pregnant, and he has pups. No, wait, that's a badger.

Patrick: A Leny in the bush is, er, (raspberry). Next!
