Beginnings
Bu Jin® Design is located in Boulder, Colorado in the foothills of the Colorado Rockies. We locally design, develop, and manufacture all of the products that bear our signature.

Bu Jin Design took shape in Florida, in 1976, through the vision of Hiroshi Ikeda, after he moved from Japan to study and teach aikido. Ikeda made hakama and experimented with new designs and materials for weapons cases and word soon spread about these one-of-a-kind products.

In 1980, Ikeda moved to Boulder, where he and his wife have developed Bu Jin Design to a company, that today provides uncompromising quality and service to martial artists throughout the world.

The meaning of Bu Jin
In ancient Japan the men and women of the samurai class developed a philosophy of honor, respect, and contemplation of life's mysteries. These virtues were developed in both women and men, and the people who lived by the samurai code were known as "Bu Jin" or "People of the Samurai Spirit." The Bu Jin calligraphy, which identifies Bu Jin Design products, was brushed by Hiroshi Ikeda.

It is as safe as giving it to us over the phone. The catalog portion of the site does not require encryption, since no information is submitted there.
