No one knows for certain exactly what they (or it) are (or is). What is known is that in the First Season, Ilcitrix was looking for a stone, and in the second and third seasons, Tar'haer'raloth was looking for a stone. Both are dragons. It could be the same stone, or it could be something different. It could be a magical item, or an ancient treasure, or even just a trinket.
