Halflings and Hospitality

Episode Number: (BF101)
Original Airdate: 4/2002

This is the first episode of Blade and Fist.

The mission: go up to the East Kingsteeth mountains, find an old keep, and retrieve an item from it: the blade of a long-dead hero. It is the blade that can slay the vicious warding beastie in the library at Ironpass.

The blade was last seen in a ruined keep where some magical experiment went horribly awry, and only a very few types of magic work there. Additionally, the blade is rumored to be in possession of some large, ugly, evil humanoid.

Karilon relates that the old keep is a safe haven where beasts that live on blood and violence find shelter without fear of magical reprisal. It's high in the East Kingsteeth, too far away for Twingate to have gone to the trouble to get rid of them. Karilon wants a party that can work without relying on magic. This is where Gryffid, Arlemis, Meer, and a few other rough characters come in.

While approaching the mountains, the party encounters a bunch of ugly insect-like monsters and manages to scare them off. Further along the road, the party learns how to deal with a hungry bear.

Finally, the party reaches the halfling village, the last major landmark on the way to the old keep. They find that the cider is the only real beverage available, but it's not half-bad. They extract a map from the village wizard, and fail to find accomodations at the local inn, because it's overbooked. The following night, Gurk messes with an altar outside of the village and makes one of the residents very sad.
