TG510
Redirected from: One of the Callen
Episode Number: (TG510)
Original Airdate: 1/2003
The party splits up into two groups. Gryff and Arly follow Tim into the
East Kingsteeth, while Sendant and Kazek accompany Tierney to the Tashir
Temple. There they meet Catan, the head of the Tashir Temple (and,
incidentally a medusa). During their stay, a murder is committed, and
the finger of blame seems to point everywhere.
Meanwhile, Tim's team meets a trio of metallic dragons and travels with
them to a hidden city of metallic dragons. There, the party learns of an
imminent giant attack on Twingate, as well as some history about the Great
War.
Plot Points
- There are monks of all races training at the Tashir Temple, waiting for the coming of the Sorrowful Observer of Truth, a great monk who will lead them into battle.
- The souls of the monks of the Tashir Temple are reincarnated monks; therefore they all have been training and preparing for a long time.
- The Sorrowful Observer of Truth is said to be one who has never been touched by fist or sword.
- The Chime of Ages operates magically. Each chime follows some sort of mathematical pattern, but not all of the patterns are understood.
- Tierney said that he was referred to in the Alternate Reality as "Tahilranev", which means "Sorrowful Observer of Truth" in Ta'bar'pur.
- Gurnge, a minotaur, is a prime suspect in the murder, mostly because of the goring and trampling marks on the body. Kazek is also under suspicion.
- Greyfist, a visiting monk of the Shadowless Order, detects as evil for both Tierney and Minmax. He seems very defensive about the murder.
- In the Great War, the infernal being that sought godhood had control of a powerful artifact that took control of the dragons.
- The chromatic dragons behave the way they do because of a lingering effect of having been controlled. They are also seeking the artifact.
- The chromatic dragons are believed to be leading the giant attack on Twingate.
- Most dragons believe that the only other real threat to them is other dragons.
- Sailbranch (that's what it sounded like, but it's most likely not correct) seems to have recognized the amulet worn by the sniper. He hinted that it might be an artifact itself, even though Tim did not sense any magic in it.
Unanswered Questions
- Whodunit?
- Why did they do it?
- Is Tierney really the Sorrowful Observer of Truth? After all, he's not a monk.
- What was up with those two silver dragons?
- Why did Nyralla send for Tim?
- What does Sailbranch (again with the spelling) know about the amulet and the Great War?
Analysis
Quotable Notes
(The minotaurs greet. Peacefully.)
Kazek: I am Kazek. I choose not to kill you at this time.
Gurnge: I am Gurnge. I also choose not to kill you at this time.
Tierney: Is... that... a celestial kobold?
Pixie Kobold: Oh,no. (titters) I had the fortune to be raised by pixies! (flappaflappaflappaflappa)
Kazek (after talking to Minmax): I'm going to roll a Sense Motive check.
Sendant: Is the girl rubbing off on you?
Tierney: I mean, if I were to claim that I were the Sorrowful Observer of Truth, how would you know if it were true?
Catan: Aha! (Presents the brochure "So You Think You're the Sorrowful Observer of Truth.")
Greyfist: Well, you see, we of the Shadowless Order are committed to --
Tierney: Oh, were you the ones trying to kill me?
