Nothing lasts forever, but Bu Jin® Hakama come close. We start with quality raw materials, then stitch and double-stitch every step of the way. With completely finished inner seams, reinforced side vents, and more, you can expect to enjoy your hakama for years.

Three quality fabrics. Our easy-care 65/35 polyester/cotton blends, the 5 oz. duck and the 8 oz. twill, are durable, virtually colorfast, hold pleats well and have minimal shrinkage. The twill has a slightly heavier hand. Our 10 oz., 100% cotton duck is a tightly woven, all-natural fabric with the softness and individual color variation associated with cotton. All fabrics are available in black or navy. Himo. Our double-stitched, triple-layered himo are amply long. On a medium size hakama, the back himo are 89" x 1 1/2" and the front are 180" x 1 1/2". Other sizes adjusted accordingly. Caring for your hakama. Machine washing your cotton hakama may give a stonewashed look to the fabric, which evens out over time. If you choose to tub-soak your cotton hakama in cold water or dry clean it, please tell us so we can adjust for shrinkage.

Front panel. If you wear your obi parallel to the floor, and tuck your hakama into it, you may want to order the Extended Front Panel. The front panel is 2 1/2" longer, allowing more material to fold over your obi while still maintaining a straight hemline and minimizing side vent gaps. If your obi slopes down in front, please select the Regular Front Panel. Four different widths. Because there's no such thing as one-size-fits-all when it comes to hakama, we offer four different widths for you to choose from - Small through Extra Large. You'll appreciate the comfortable fit, freedom of movement and smooth look you get when you wear a hakama that is the correct width.

The hakama you order is uniquely yours, designed around the style and features you choose. We carefully and expertly construct your hakama to your specifications, including fabric, color, koshiita, front panel and length.

Customized length. The length of every Bu Jin Design Hakama is made to your specifications. Please carefully follow the measuring instructions on the Information on the Ordering a Hakama page to determine the correct length. And, as always, you can call us with any questions. Please be aware that because of the special care we take with each hakama, your order may take up to two weeks to complete. For aikido and other arts. Bu Jin Design Hakama are for any art in which a hakama is worn. Practitioners of aikido, kendo, kyudo and jujitsu will appreciate Bu Jin's quality and service. Traditional style koshiita. The Traditional Style Koshiita, used in iaido, kendo, aikido, kyudo and many schools of jujitsu, has a firm, yet flexible backing. May be machine washed and dried, but should be removed for dry cleaning. Aiki style koshiita. The Aiki Style Koshiita is a Bu Jin innovation, a softer design suited to aikido ukemi. Firm multi-stitched layers of fabric contour comfortably around your waist. Koshiita replacement kit. The Kit includes a koshiita insert, nylon thread, and replacement instructions. SMLXL $15.00
