And Then There Were Two...

The party, aided by the BlackPillar and the Dwarven Legions of Dead, launches an attack on Twingate. They sneak in during the attack and make their way to the InnerKeep, where Tierney tries desperately to get the chesspiece back into place.

Note:

The title comes from a popular old song in the Twingate area, the lyrics changed just slightly...

Seven Adventurers fighting the drones,
Alternate universe, or else they're clones,
Then the beholder comes, one eyestalk flicks,
Leny rolls poorly, and then there were six.

Six brave adventurers sneaking through town.
Ta'bar'pur misses them (never looks down),
Eye tyrant goes for them, dead or alive,
Salin ends up stoned, and then there were five.

Five brave adventurers, running the keep,
Sirens behind them, the odds looking steep,
Ripper shouts, "Keep going, I'll hold the door!"
Twelve seconds later... and then there were four.

Four brave adventurers, fighting the cause,
Giving their lives without ever a pause
Kaelith smites boldly, a great killing spree,
Then she dies offscreen, and then there were three.

Three brave adventurers, running head-on
Ta'bar'pur chasing them, all hope looks gone,
Gryff falls behind, and without much ado,
The others ditch him, and then there were two.

Two brave adventurers, working their spells,
Banishing Ta'bar'pur back to the hells,
Then Drake says "Hello, a deal might be fun,"
He changes sides, then... and then there was one.

Plot Points:

• With the chesspiece put back, the timeline is restored, and the Ta'bar'pur do not yet appear to be in this world.

Unanswered Questions:

• Will the Ta'bar'pur be coming to this world?
• Did the restored chesspiece make the game a victory, or just put the game back in motion?

Analysis

• The Ta'bar'pur are apparently gone, but not forgotten -- at least not by Tierney. The others appear to have only fragments of memories. What this means for them is debatable.

• Ripper spoke of a dream Leny had told him about, a dream of DukeEledin losing a chess match with a horrible creature, and the chessboard being a doorway. This is the dream Leny had in One Lie Leads to Another, it would appear. And the dream was powerful enough to manifest even in different universes.

• Whether this is really just a non-arc episode, or a foreshadowing, is still unclear.

DMP Speaks:

Had a ton of fun in this universe. Just heaps of fun. It gives you a chance to do things that you couldn't do before. Leny and Arly as an item. Killing people without the possibility of them being brought back. The hints of what might be coming in the main universe, and the questions as to what exactly the Ta'bar'pur wanted in the first place... these are all great things to leave people wondering...
