Greased and Prone

This is the second part of Spell and Silence.

Tim and Tierney have just scared off some mind flayers, and proceed to take out the mind pool. They go back to hook up with the others, finding out along the way that Jaelin seems none too trustworthy and Nilendas is working with the Black Pillar. Not good. Tim, Tierney, and Aldea manage to rescue Warri from Nil's foul clutches, only to end up trapped by mounting numbers of Interrogators and Monks(?). Spells go awry, Tierney goes Down and Dying (mmm. D&D) to the golem, and now everyone's been stunned and is getting the snot beaten out of them.

Plot Points:

Jaelin's allegiances have been called into question, but he seems to be fighting with the party for now. At any rate, they need him. Tim seems unhappy at having to kill, but is, with the mounting danger, perhaps warming to the idea.

Unanswered Questions:

• Whose side is Jaelin on?
• How does that panel work?
• How will the party ever survive this one?

Analysis:

• Nilendas, when he uses a holy symbol of the Black Pillar, seems able to make friends of the prison guards. At least for a short while.
• The monks of the Shadowless Order who are prison guards seem to subscribe to the theory of bludgeon first, question later.

Nilendas Speaks:

My clutches are not foul, thank you very much. I maintain very good standards of hygeine.

Who says I'm working for the Black Pillar? I thought the holy symbol would easily get the guard-grunts off our backs. Until the rest of you have to go off and mess everything up.

To answer the unanswered questions:

• I think Jaelin is in here only to break things and cause large, impressive explosions.
• I doubt he really knows how that panel works. I think he's using the next-prettiest-button algorithm to operate it, and we all know how effective of an approach that is.
• If the next prettiest button on that panel next to Jaelin is labeled "Press Here For Divine Intervention," we might make it out.
