Redirected from: Should Auld Acquaintance Be Forgot
Episode Number: (TG513)
Original Airdate: 2/2003
Tierney chases after Duke Eledin, who is attacked outside the Chess Room
by Gart. (Editor's note: so much stuff happened, I don't know how
to summarize it.) After returning Eledin's soul to his body, the
party heads to Yadarjin's to spend their newly acquired rewards, then
visits K'laehme at the Assassin's Guild -- and meets up with an old
friend. Later, Arly takes a side trip to visit Naoine, who actually turns
out to be the Penumbral Lord. Wackiness ensues.
Watch For:
Plot Points
- The Ta'bar'pur aren't that good chess players. Eledin's ancestors have been maintaining a stalemate for hundreds of years.
- If Eledin were to lose the game, the Ta'bar'pur could enter the world through Twingate. If he were to win, the gate would be closed -- and Twingate would be of no value to the Ta'bar'pur, putting Twingate in jeopardy.
- Eledin wanted Tierney to kill him. Tierney didn't.
- Eledin was initially unhappy that Tierney lied, but later rewarded the party for their efforts. Twingate's forces are at their disposal.
- Yadarjin has asked the party to help protect him from another threat, this time hailing from the West Kingsteeth.
- Simon's back. From the dead, he claims. He has lost his spellcasting ability, and no longer detects as evil.
- Simon is unhappy with the current Black Pillar leadership.
- Simon has pledged to support the party in whatever way he can.
- According to Simon, a Black Pillar strike on Twingate is imminent, to be spearheaded by a pit fiend and a host of summoned evil outsiders. He suggests that a surgical strike against the pit fiend general would severely demoralize and hamper the attack on Twingate.
- To that end, Simon has given the party several magical items. (Ed. note: Put 'em up, folks.)
- Simon also suggests investigating the cylindrical room in the East Kingsteeth, first seen in Mission: Irresponsible. It is some sort of ancient Ta'bar'pur machine which was used to amplify magic power. By using the machine, Simon says, the party could locate centers of Ta'bar'pur activity and strike.
- The black-suited humanoid is -- rather, was -- some sort of construct controlled by Simon. It also happens to be the dark avenger that has been prowling Twingate's rooftops.
- Reports from the dragons indicate that Griltar appears to have been pounded into rubble and burnt to ashes.
- Bergis is under siege from various raiders, possibly under the command of The Bastard.
- The old silver dragon that was guarding the artifact in the West Kingsteeth (first encountered in Giants in the Playground) has died.
Unanswered Questions
- What's up with Yadarjin? Is that really him?
- Can the party really trust Simon? Can they afford not to?
- What happened to Naoine? Or was she really the Penumbral Lord the entire time? And if so... ewwwwww. Of course he did spend a while "inside the domain of the PL"...
Analysis
Man, women are really confusing...to...less experienced...people.
Quotable Notes
Tim: What was that?
Sendant: Plot.
Sendant: We need you to help return his soul to his body.
Bright Blade priest: So very small Flame Strike, then?
Other Bright Blade priest: Or a Blade Barrier.
Bright Blade priest: Maybe both a very small Flame Strike AND a Blade Barrier.
Tierney: Why is it always the Bright Blade temple?
Yadarjin: They intend to use me as material components.
Tim: ...What sort of spell would that be useful for?
(As Pat awards the party with experience for dealing with Simon:)
Tierney: We will never forgive you for the wrongs that you ooooooooh!
Geordan: Boots of Haste cost 50,000?!
Mike: Well, no, but you have 50,000 gold. Unless you spent it all on something, like "Not Boots of Haste."
