When the Lights Go Down in the City

The party teleports to the Northern City, where they are immediately attacked by an army of metallic dragons defending the Sebereich. After some confusion is cleared up, the party examines the city's defenses, speaks with Ambassador Fayel and his group of Sky Elves, and learns about the Northern Army and the True Dragons controlling them. At midafternoon a storm blows in, and the Penumbral Lord appears -- revealing Nyralla to be a traitor.

Plot Points

• According to Nyralla's attendant Aldion, Simon succeeded in taking over Ironpass. However, he did so by sacrificing three people (whose descriptions matched those of Karilon, Krieg, and Emcee) and regaining the favor of the Black Pillar.
• Simon has crowned himself Em-shil-vish II.
• Tim has notified Arly of the Ironpass situation; neither of them has told anyone else as of yet.
• The Penumbral Lord appeared in a giant black ship through a teleportation gate.
• The Penumbral Lord's army consists of a few nightwalkers, several nightwings, and an army of shadowdancers.
• The artifact pillars surrounding the city turned out to be some sort of weapon against the dragons (and Tim).
• The weakened dragons are engaging the nightwings while the Northern Army is engaging the shadowdancers. The nightwalkers were ordered to secure the Sebereich.

Analysis

• The Penumbral Lord wields a scythe, lending credibility to the theory that he is in fact Em-shil-vish.

Unanswered Questions

• The Penumbral Lord appeared in a black ship not unlike the one seen at the destruction of Griltar and in Tierney's alternate universe. How much Ta'bar'pur technology does the Penumbral Lord have? And why doesn't he, or any of his minions, register as Ta'bar'pur?
• What are Fayel and the other Sky Elves planning to do?
